An engaged Turkish heiress and seven members of her bridal party were killed when their private jet crashed into an Iranian mountain range on Sunday.
Mina Basaran, daughter of the chairman of Turkey’s Basaran Investment Holding, was traveling back from her bachelorette party in Dubai with her close friends when someone on board made a call about a “technical failure.”
The plane, which left from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, had been traveling for about an hour before suddenly falling and hitting a mountain.
It’s still unclear what caused the crash, although a witness reported that the jet was on fire before hitting the mountain, according to the Associated Press.
Eleven victims were found in the wreckage — including three crew members and Basaran’s friends: Zeynep Coskun, Ayse And, Burcu Urfali, Asli Izmirli, Liana Hananel, Jasmin Baruh, and Sinem Akay (all pictured above).
Photos from the heiress’s now-private Instagram account showed the soon-to-be bride boarding the plane with a suitcase, heart-shaped balloons, and a jacket with the words “Mrs. Bride” embroidered on the back.
Friends have since taken to social media to share these photos in honor of the 28-year-old socialite, who was expected to marry Murat Gezer on April 14 at Ciragan Sarayi:
Purely devastating. Our hearts go out to the victims’ families in the wake of this unspeakable tragedy.
