Matt Lauer‘s infidelity was no secret, according to Today staffers!
As we reported, on Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie read a statement on-air from NBC News chairman Andrew Lack announcing the 59-year-old’s termination after allegedly engaging in “inappropriate sexual behavior.”
The complaint — filed by a colleague on Monday night — reportedly details an incident that happened at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
According to a People report published on Wednesday, crew members on the morning talk show reportedly knew Lauer frequently cheated on wife Annette Roque. A source revealed:
“He regularly cheated on his wife… Everyone knew. His wife lives in the Hamptons and he lives in the city, but we never heard he made unwanted moves.”
A former employee confirms the infidelity allegations, but says the sexual misconduct claims come as “a shock.”
“Everyone on staff knew he cheated regularly on his wife… That wasn’t a secret, but sexual [misconduct] is a shock… He was friendly and approachable with everyone, and was very well-liked.”
A third source says “there was most definitely more than one” affair, and says “they were never with anyone whom [Lauer] didn’t have significant seniority over.” However:
“He wasn’t a lech and he wasn’t known as someone who would corner you or retaliate against you if you spurned him or someone who would lure you into his dressing room.”
As we wrote, Variety published a piece on Wednesday where more than 10 women speak about their inappropriate experiences with the journalist. Allegedly, Lauer once gave a sex toy to a colleague, and once flashed his penis to a different coworker.
Truly a disturbing story…
