People of Interest in Neb. Woman’s Disappearance After Date Appear to Speak Out in Online Video

A man and woman identified as people of interest in the recent disappearance of a 24-year-old Nebraska woman appear to have posted a video Wednesday morning on social media titled “our side of the story.”

The clip, which is nearly 10 minutes long, shows a man and woman who look like and identify themselves as 23-year-old Bailey Boswell and Aubrey Trail, 51.

“We’re not trying to defend anything, we’re not trying to make you believe anything,” Trail says while sitting with Boswell in what looks to be a parked car. “We just feel we should get to say our side since everyone else gets to say theirs.”

Earlier this week, Boswell and Trail were named as people of interest by police in Lincoln, Nebraska, who are investigating the disappearance of Sydney Loofe.

Loofe was reported missing by her family on Nov. 16 after she went on a date the night before with someone she met online and later did not show up for work, Lincoln police have told PEOPLE.

On Nov. 15, the day of her disappearance, Loofe’s family says she sent a friend a message on Snapchat saying “ready for my date.”

Authorities have been unable to locate Boswell or Trail. (PEOPLE’s efforts to reach them have also been unsuccessful.) On Tuesday, Lincoln police asked the public for their help in finding the pair.

On Wednesday morning, Boswell and Trail uploaded a video to a Facebook group organized to help find Loofe.

Lincoln police have confirmed they are analyzing the video but declined to comment further on it on Wednesday. They have not discussed Trail and Bowell’s possible connection to Loofe’s case beyond describing them as people of interest.

In the video, Boswell says she and Loofe had gone on two dates, including one the night Loofe was last seen. Boswell claims that on Nov. 15, she picked Loofe up from her home, drove around, went back to her house to smoke marijuana and when it was time for Loofe to go home, she asked Boswell to drop her off at a friend’s house.

“I haven’t heard from her since,” Boswell says in the video. “I just want the family to know that I’m truly sorry and I didn’t have anything to do with this and I hope that Sydney is found very soon. She is a sweet, amazing girl.”

In the video, Boswell and Trail claim they contacted both the Lincoln Police Department and the Saline County Sheriff’s Office in Nebraska.

“We were told to quit blowing up their phone even though we told them, ‘Hey do you understand we are the people you are looking for?’ ” Trail says. “They said, ‘You’ve called here several times. We will get back to you when we can.’ ”

“I pray for Sydney,” Trail says in the video, “I hope she’s found soon. I wish the family the best. I’m sorry that she wasn’t with you on Thanksgiving.”

Since she’s disappeared, Loofe’s phone has been turned off or has died. It last pinged a cell phone tower near Wilber, Nebraska, about 40 miles away from her Lincoln apartment.

“Circumstances surrounding her disappearance are concerning,” Lincoln Police Chief Jeffrey Bliemeister said at a news conference last week.

Both Boswell and Trail claim they have already given Lincoln police detailed statements with all the information they have.

On Tuesday, Lincoln police announced they are working with local, state and federal investigators to locate Loofe. PEOPLE’s calls to her parents and to the families of Trail and Boswell were not returned on Wednesday.

Loofe, who is originally from Neligh, Nebraska, is described as 5-feet-7-inches tall with blonde hair, weighing 135 lbs., according to police.

She was last seen wearing a white Columbia-brand jacket and a cream-colored shirt.

Trail is 6-feet tall, weighing 284 lbs., according to police. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Boswell is 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighing 150 lbs., with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information on the pair or Loofe’s whereabouts is urged to call 402-441-6000.
